Authentic Stories from Diners
Fantastic spot for tapas!! We tried a fair few of the dishes and they were all delicious. I would say it is on the pricier side but for me it was worth it. The staff were very attentive and helpful with the menu. Everything was really fresh and I loved the grill part of the menu. Felt like an authentic tapas experience. The wine pairings were a good addition too. I will definitely be returning to try more dishes.
Went this evening with my sister and brother-in-law and we were so pleasantly surprised. Firstly, the servers were lovely, friendly and polite which set the tone and we ordered a variety of options. When the veg platter arrived there was a ‘wow’ moment and better than that, it tasted as good as it looked. There were several other dishes that I need to highlight, the fish croquettes were delish, sis enjoyed the goat cheese with honey and brother-in-law enjoyed the meatballs and gambas. The brownie dessert also was yum. We are a happy trio and would definitely recommend a visit if you’ve not tried this place yet.
Absolutely stunning food! Fantastic service from Simon, Jake and Liv. Would highly recommend the Picanha rump and the octopus.
This restaurant serves Spanish style good and does it well. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. We had starters of bread, balsamic vinegar and olives. Then a seafood paella. All in all an enjoyable experience.
A new restaurant in a town that's already got too many cafes and restaurants for the available business; which is why so many have come and gone in the past few years. Not very different from many UK towns I suspect. Ambiente Tapas has taken over a very large restaurant created by a Brazilian style business before it. It's so big that even in summer it will be difficult to fill (as the previous occupants found) and this impacts the atmosphere, which is why I mention it. Outside of times of 'special events' and 'peak' times Flemingate shopping centre is never heavily populated by customers and so (especially through the winter months) the place struggles to create a 'buzz' anyway. I visited Ambiente on the last Saturday afternoon of November with 3 friends. It was a cold and very rainy afternoon and the numbers in the restaurant very much reflected that. (Let's hope for the team working there that this winter won't see many rainy, cold days ... especially in Jan/Feb when things for business are difficult anyway. I'm going to continue my review with the 'issues' (for me), so that I can finish it with some positive thoughts for you about Ambiente Tapas (in Beverley). My review makes no allowance for this being a 'new' restaurant, which I believe is fair given that 'Ambiente Tapas' is a restaurant business of 18 years with several outlets across East & West Yorkshire run successfully by experienced restauranteurs. Many of the small plates are very poor value for money. Example: 5 very thin triangles of Manchego cheese just-drizzled with honey ... £5.50+ The restaurant 'drink' focus is Sherry. They are very expensive for the serving. During our visit, the vast majority of tables were occupied by couples, groups of 4 or 6. There was a single (one) table at which 3 people were sat. This (in my opinion) is typical and representative of what one might reasonably expect to see in a restaurant - not rocket science. However, ALL of the small plates were served with portions of 3, or 5 and not only is this ridiculous given the 'reasonable expectation of customer-group-numbers', it becomes really annoying and does indeed lessen customer satisfaction. It seemed a point of humour to the managers I spoke to. Each small plate of 3, or 5 items etc ... (see how annoying it was and how it sticks in the memory) was a small-plate of small-items; my friends and I all left hungry and unwillingly to rack the bill up further to change that.As a group we drank 4 (small) Sherry's each over the course of our visit - nothing else. Rather than leave readers with this as a final thought, I'll add my view of price now - at £220 for 4 people drinking 4 Sherry's each and sharing 6 small plates, and 2 deserts it makes it hard to describe this restaurant as value for money. Unliekly to be a place we return to. The good things: There were, during our visit, many more staff than is found in most restaurants making it easy to get served and get attention. The service was excellent, consistently, throughout our visit. Every member of staff we met was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to enjoy their job and be happy to be working at Ambiente Tapas. The food was authentic and very flavoursome. The Sherry's were all really nice and the staff (one a Director of the Ambiente Tapas group) explained in detail for us what to expect of each one, in a way that was interesting and customers were (and will be) able to then experience. The place is very clean, hygiene seems to be high on the list of priorities of the owners and staff. A final point I always like: the photos I share are screenshots taken from the website and they reflect the reality of the restaurant, and the food; which looks on the plate, as it does in the photos.
