The three of us ate at calverts restaurant today, my wife and I ordered the festive afternoon tea and my daughter ordered croque momsieur which said was nice apart from being a tad greasy. Our afternoon tea was a bit of let down due to the fact there was not much of it, for £22 pp you each got 1 x sausage wrapped in bacon, 1 x panko cheese ball about the size of 10 pence peice, a small pot of beef berginon, small peice of parkin and a wee mince pie with a bit of cheese on, oh you got a coffee and three half's of new potatoe with camerlized onion on it. Now I've had loads of afternoon teas in the past and have never come away feeling hungry as I have today, I honestly thought they had forgot to bring the second lot out, on the menu it discribes plural items per person panko ball's, sausages ect but only got singular. Definitely not worth the money 😞
We're regular holiday visitors. We saw the 'Festive Menu' thought we'll 'treat ourselves' We're on holiday! We wish we hadn't bothered! Restaurant 'looked' the part, I'm afraid aside from the beautifully decorated fireplace it was a massive let down. Service- shocking! There was more items of my 'Turkey dinner' MISSING than not!! They 'forgot' my: sprouts Gravy Cranberry sauce - as advertised! What did come was tepid. VERY disappointed & will NOT be returning to dine sadly. My Husband was undecided on what to order, said, we'll have to come back, but not a chance. His exact words were.... I'd have been really fed up if I'd had that. I'd expect it in a supermarket café for £6! Maybe but NOT one of THE most popular, well known visitor attractions in the Yorkshire Dale's! For £18:50!!!! Really deflated!!
Was a great afternoon tea. Would have been five stars however the Mac and Cheese had no flavour, just tasted like boiled pasta. Everything else was absolutely fantastic
We were lucky to get a table as all others were reserved. I would consider reserving as this restaurant is very popular. The the staff were polite and spot on for customer service. Alot of dishes were cheese based 😋 My partner & I had a meal, 1 side dish and a drink each which cost £36. I will post pictures of the meals and menus. The atmosphere was a relaxing one being packed. The tables are spaced. Wheelchair friendly. There are a few bays for blue badge holders. I would go back again.
The service was quick, friendly, and no issues at all. Food came pretty quickly, and we ordered the ultimate Wensleydale Creamery Rarebit, The Wensleydale Sourdough chicken tikka pizza. (See Photo's attached) We certainly got the best out of the creamery. All the food was mouth-watering, and the cheese was spot on. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and fruit scone, again, great food and done properly. The overall price was far cheaper than anticipated, and I would recommend a visit whenever you visit Hawes.
