Visited the Creamery on a weekend trip up to the Yorkshire Dales. Booked in for the experience (highly recommend booking in advance as this fills up very quickly). The demonstration and history around the Creamery and Wensleydale Cheese was very interesting and being able to see the process from milk to cheese within that short period of time is quite something to witness. The experience also includes taste testing the various cheeses on offer (however this is also offered in the cheese store anyway, so you do not need to book the experience for this reason) After the experience you get to walk around and see what the backend conveyor system looks like to get an understanding of the scale of the production line. I would highly recommend booking the experience if you plan to visit this place as it adds a whole lot more depth to your visit and for the price you can’t really go wrong. The main shop is split into 3 sections, the gift store, the Cafe/dining in area and the cheese shop. All locations are in one building and easy to navigate with a large number of offerings available. There is onsite parking with blue badge spaces closer to the entrance. All the cheeses are vegetarian friendly as explained during the experience. Overall if you are planning a trip to Yorkshire or just passing by, I would highly recommend making a stop here.
Great few hours visiting the site, free parking and everything clear and laid out well. The cheese experience was very interesting and made entertaining from the guide too. Love the fact you get unlimited samples in the main centre…the restaurant was fantastic and well priced! (Make sure you book the experience and restaurant in advance). Great visit!
My wife booked a Cheesy Festive afternoon tea , as a treat for me, we have been trying to go for ages, to have the regular afternoon cheesy tea. There is a factory tour as well but we didn't have time for that experience, free parking, unfortunately not dog friendly but I can understand that from a hygiene point of view. The festive tea was amazing, we also ordered a portion of deep fried Wensleydale with a dressed side salad, the festive tea included cheesy panko balls with Cranberries, Wensleydale and cranberries pigs in blankets with a tomato and chill chutney, beef bourguignon with a Wensleydale blue cheese crumble, pan fried new potatoes with caramelised onion and Njuda, mince pie with Wensleydale cheese and ginger parking with Wensleydale cheese, Yorkshire tea, full cheese experience, staff very friendly and welcoming, unfortunately not dog friendly
I just love cheese of any description, and with my own history of working in the dairy industry a visit here was a bit of a no brainer really. The cheese making demonstration followed by tasting was an absolute highlight. Nice to see they had put out some Wensleydale and fruit cake samples to try. The two together just work so well. Regrettably there was no actual cheese production to watch from the viewing gallery during my visit, but I can hardly fault them on account of their production schedule. The cheese shop is also a must visit, more so than the equally well stocked gift shop in my opinion. Well laid out and with samples of each flavour available to try before you buy. I did a lot of trying, and then of course a little buying. Be prepared for the cold in here though, presumably to help keep the cheese fresh.
I visited the Wensleydale Creamery with my two young daughters (ages 1 and 4) and we all had a lovely time. The demonstration on how cheese is made was really interesting, and it was great to be able to view the factory in action. The cheese tasting was a highlight for me – so many varieties to try, and all delicious. I also found the prices in the shop and café to be very reasonable, which was a nice surprise. My girls especially enjoyed the interactive parts of the visitor experience, which kept them engaged and made it fun for the whole family. Overall, it’s a great place for both adults and children to enjoy. I’d definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the Yorkshire Dales.
