Authentic Stories from Diners
Well well, let's just saying that we are talking about an historic mansion in this village (since XVIII sec. if I'm not wrong) and that is perfectly located (up on the main street and near the Brontë museum). It is not luxurious as you might aspect by the stars number, but you will have everything: functional and simple rooms, a small bathroom, free Wi-Fi and a big screen TV. As part of the accommodation treatment you will find free coffee, tea, water, chocolate, biscuits too. The furnishings could use a bit of updating (like the shower knob), but, again, everything is functional. Staff is polite and educated.
Lovely pub! Delicious food, great customer service and a banging playlist. We popped in at 7 on a Monday evening (most other pubs/ restaurants were closed at this point) and ordered the game pie and the steak pie, both of which were fantastic! Thanks for a lovely meal!
The bed was absolutely awful. Service was civil but not great - we weren’t directed to the car park even after offering that we couldn’t find it and few staff made eye contact or smiled. The shower wasn’t great. In general, rooms are in need of an update. Having said this, location is excellent so would potentially stay again.
First things first, the Steak Pie and chips is amazing. I first experienced this in August 2022, while recovering from a life threatening injury, the streak pie pulled me through. The Bar has plenty of atmosphere with the rooms being clean, comfortable and well appointed. We had a view down the Main Street toward the Black Bull. Breakfast is cooked to order so be patient as it is worth the wait. The Old White Lion is the go to for food and drink. Room 7 is said to be haunted, look up the story.
Lovely old building, stayed here for one night. Friendly family staff on reception who sorted the missing batteries from the remote control. Breakfast was not included but the food on the varied evening menu looked really good. The room had a lovely view though the option of a low light would be good. Some people would get annoyed by the creaky floorboards throughout the property but for me this added to its charm. Has it's own private car park to the side. Very cosy & quirky pub but the ale I tried wasn't great but I would definitely stay here again.
