This was a really mixed experience, especially for somewhere which has just been awarded a Michelin Star. Entrance to the building is very dark and it wasn't clear where the restaurant was. We went into the bar and were urged to take a seat and offered a drink. The website is very clear about being on time with limited table allocation. It was therefore anxiety provoking when having arrived 5 minutes early we were still waiting, 20 minutes later. The bar area itself was not particularly clean which did not set a good tone. When we were seated the welcome was somewhat brusque, and I am not sure that feedback was particularly welcomed. We had booked the lunchtime set tasting menu. The quality of the cooking was good although portion sizes are small. The combination of bread and butter with beef seems somewhat odd and I would have preferred some other carb/vegetable with the protein. The trout dish and celeriac courses were standout amongst those served. We noticed that the maitre d'hotel spent time in the kitchen and were somewhat alarmed as she was not aproned or wearing any hair restraint when handling food. When raised, this again was met somewhat confrontationally, which is surprising considering a genuine concern regarding hygiene. The restaurant is a converted mill building. Personally I found the atmosphere to be noisy and difficult to hear. There is no decoration or pictures simply a monochrome palette of black and white. Service was basic, lacking polish and there seemed to be an emphasis on selling drinks. With experience of a number of Michelin restaurants I am surprised by this award. Generally, there are standards for cooking service and ambience to be met, on this visit only 1 out of 3 was met. We won't be returning, and there was a definite feeling by the way the bill was presented, that we weren't welcome back. No one said goodbye or showed even basic courtesy as we left. I won't be recommending the restaurant either.

Outstanding. Firstly you have to like the whole tasting menu experience. If you do, you can appreciate the time it takes and the cost. Great decor, and service was really good. Variety of dishes, quite heavy fish focus (but is a vege option). Food is immaculately presented and great taste. Would be back for a special occasion and interested to check out the other bar and food area

Undoubtedly the best fine dining restaurant in the region. A comfortable setting, excellent front of house and really outstanding food. We've been before, both here and the former setting. First time having the full menu at the current venue and it was delightful. We wondered if it would be good value vs the incredible lunch menu. It was. If this place doesn't get a star this year, the guide needs to re-interview for inspectors.

We adored Joro overall however one small thing let it down for us and that was one of the waiters unfortunately. We loved all the tasting menu course, however when we came to the main beef course, it was quite cold. I had paid £15 extra for the mushroom which was not really warm at all. We did mention it to the waiter, who brushed it off, with a “it’s the temperature it should be”. One of the Chefs came over, who was lovely, and Whilst I was telling him, the same waiter serving the wine pairings looked impatiently at us and just put down the two glasses of wine for the course and walked off! We had paid for the wine pairings so they could be explained to you, we felt he was quite rude . Other than that, the food, the accommodation and general ambiance was beautiful. We would return and would recommend Joro. This is the first time we have been since they have moved to Outibridge and whilst it felt that there was nothing else to do around it, the experience was super 👍🏼

Dine and stay at Joro such a treat for our wedding anniversary! The current Japanese inspired menu was thoroughly enjoyable, a captivating mix of punchy and subtle flavours. I don't want to spoil the adventure of discovering the dishes and the menu will change periodically, but there wasn't a course we didn't enjoy. Always fun to find new flavours and combinations. A highlight of the current menu was the celeriac course - who knew the humble root veg related to celery could be SO tasty! And the Amalfi chilli sauce with the trout was beautifully balanced to bring out the delicate taste of the trout. We didn't have the drinks package, but the staff were very helpful recommending drinks. The cocktails, a twist on the usuals, were an additional layer of enjoyment to the evening and the meal, lots of choice of drinks. I discovered sake, japanese rice wine, a great alternative compliment to white wine. The serving staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, able to answer my many questions! The theatre of being able to watch Luke and the team create all the dishes in front of you really adds to the experience. The room, we had what was I think the larger apartment style room 1, was beautifully set out, welcome miso and chocolate cookies, with plenty of amenities. Breakfast was a tasty mix of Japanese and Scandinavian, a great final treat to the stay. The self-check in was really convenient. Parking is across the road from the Mill, not behind it. Thank you everyone at Joro for an amazing anniversary treat!
