Authentic Stories from Diners
This is a lovely restaurant which I’ve visited and enjoyed twice . The food was very delicious with lots of variety on the menu and particularly good puddings. The only negatives were that I did not feel the amount of crab on my crab crumpet starter was super generous (seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the samphire) and the service is a bit slow. The staff are friendly and efficient but just not enough of them. However, I think the food and relaxed atmosphere makes up for it. Another bonus is the drinks with delicious alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails on offer.
Ordered a couple starters, ordered the garlic and herb scallops along with the grilled tiger prawns in garlic and lime. There were 4 scallops on their shells and 5 tiger prawns (the body was peeled) head and tail of the prawns were left on. The prawns and scallops were cooked perfectly. The price for the 2 dishes was £20 and £18, a bit pricey for starters but was worth paying for. Both tasted very delicious and presented very neatly, five stars for presentation. Ordered a side order of chips which were perfectly cooked and tasted lovely as they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Marked down one star for food because they did not have any fish and chips. Atmosphere seemed a bit dim in the part of the restaurant we sat in, it was mid week so the restaurant was not very busy. The other half of the restaurant was well lit. They restaurant had good decor around with some abstract pieces of art on their brick exposed walls.
We had high hopes but ended up being very disappointed, at best underwhelmed with Native. The restaurant is cold during winter so if you’re not layered up you will be uncomfortable. There was no hot water for washing hands in the loo. The dining tables are very sticky. After finishing our starters we waited 25 minutes for the plates to be cleared. Then following the main course our waiter started totally clearing the table before everyone had finished eating, he did ask part way through the clearance ‘have you finished’ to which my partner replied ‘no I am still eating’. He then proceeded to finish clearing the table including removing some left vegetables which my partner would have eaten given the chance. Given the pricing the service should be better. The scallops were small and over cooked and overpowered by the cheese. The common theme with every dish our table ordered was that the flavours completely overpowered the fish. It seems as if it’s a fish restaurant for people who don’t like fish? Maybe that is just personal taste but when you’re spending over £80 per head it needs to be better. Sorry I really wanted to like this place!
This is easily one of the best restaurants I went to in 2025, if you like/love seafood do yourself a favour and eat here, I took my partner here for her birthday we had a starter and main each with a bottle of orange wine and we shared a dessert very fair price. Scallops were amazing, Roast Octopus was delicious. Can’t wait to come back will definitely be a restaurant will be coming back to
Me and my husband came here back in June and absolutely loved it. We say it’s one our best meals we have had and we’ve had some goodens! The ingredients were so fresh and menu so hard to choose from. Didn’t expect to find this gem in the middle of Sheffield. The cocktail bar next door had a great selection and was a nice way to end the evening. We’re back up next year and will be booking as soon as the diary opens up.
