Authentic Stories from Diners
This is our second visit here as our first meal was delicious and the atmosphere was fantastic. We called in for a pre show meal. We had the Sea Bass which was ok and Pollo Milanese which was very dry and not much mushroom sauce, the atmosphere was very flat. Not impressed this time :(
We went here for our anniversary dinner as we wanted something different this time. I thought the food was really good. The staff was nice but it did take a while for the food to arrive each time, I guess cos it was a full house on a that day. The delay in the food arriving, plus my baby’s discomfort meant we had to leave early and did not get the opportunity to try the dessert. I would still recommend visiting with this restaurant. I’d visit again if I find myself in York.
Tonight I took my fiancé here for an impromptu date night and had the most fantastic experience. When booking the table I added in a special request to make the table overlook the restaurant and to have it a bit extra special for my fiancé if possible. I’ve added special requests for reservations in different restaurants before and usually they are ignored- not here! When we arrived they had roses on the table, little rose tea lights, two glasses of prosecco and two little chocolates. my fiancé was amazed, it was the perfect start to a perfect meal! we got the calamari and garlic bread to start and this was delicious! the calamari was so fresh and light and the dough on the garlic bread was stunning. I got the carbonara for main and she got a pizza and they were both delicious! Not only was the food amazing, but the staff were so so lovely and accommodating! From the table set up, to the service and even wrapping the roses for my fiancé to take home I could not fault them. I’d give them more than 5 stars if I could. This was by far the best date night Ive had in a very long time. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant, especially with valentine’s day coming up! thank you so much to all the staff for making our night so special, it was absolutely perfect!
Been multiple times and will continue to do so. Great venue with interesting history, great food and fantastic service. Can’t recommend enough, never been disappointed. Good for groups or couples.
Had a friendly greeting by Monika as we entered. She was also our server. Friendly and attentive service. Drinks served quickly. Only our 2nd visit to this particular branch but still the same high standard. Food excellent. If you pick the same sharing starter that we did you’d better have a big appetite for the main. Restaurant set in a historical former ballroom.
