The restaurant has a great atmosphere. The young staff were friendly and attentive. I was served quickly and got my tea and food straight away. However, I was there in winter at around 3 p.m. The food tasted very good. The salad side dish also tasted fresh. I really enjoyed everything about it! Thank you very much for this cosy restaurant with lovely vegetarian dishes.

In the heart of York. I had fish n chips, with mushy peas. Other half had a chunk of salmon. Both enjoyed immensely. Excellent staff. Tad loud but conversation still easy. Pudding stuffed us. We had crumble and creme brulee, which could have been a bit crisper on the top, YMMV depending on preference. We'd go back happily.

Went to the forest restaurant as it looked really inviting from the outside! Went for lunch a group of 4 of us. Food was delicious and I mean delicious!! So fresh and yummy! Serviced I marked a 4 due to servers being slower than usual. But overall would recommend and eat again.

Came here under all the online posts and social media attention this place has gotten. Made a reservation but arrived early and the accommodated. Place is quant and very attractive inside. They sat us at a table but was not the most comfortable as they had huge metal type table legs that make it hard to get in and out of. I hit my knee a few times and foot got stuck once just trying to get out. Took sometime for anyone to come around to introduce themselves as our server. Like maybe 20 minutes. Even after we received our order we didn’t see our server again. We had to flag them down to get our check. Food was very tasty and satisfying. Very comforting on a rainy night. If I am ever in York again I may comeback but hope they improve on their service.

Myself and my husband were in York last weekend to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary/my 50th birthday. I wasn't overly impressed with the vegan option for breakfast at our hotel so thought we'd book in somewhere for Sunday and Monday morning. On the Saturday night as we were ambling back to our hotel my husband showed me Galtres Lodge which is where he was going to book for our stay but the only room available had a bath but not a shower. Anyway we were looking at the menu at Forest (where Galtres guests eat) and I was impressed. We called in and booked for the following morning. I had the Gardener's Breakfast and my husband had the Santa's Breakfast, they were so tasty and the atmosphere and service so good we booked in for our evening meal. We both had the roasts, mine was the vegan option. They were so incredibly tasty, we didn't want them to end. Even the sprouts (which I never eat!) were polished off! We had breakfast here again on the Monday morning and it was excellent again! I hope we'll be able to come back to York sooner than we had done (we last came 21 years ago when we got engaged) and return to Forest. Highly recommend it!
