This combined ticket offers two distinct experiences that capture different facets of York's appeal. First, the York Dungeon presents a theatrical journey into the city's darker past, using live actors, special effects, and detailed sets to bring to life infamous events and characters from York’s medieval through early modern periods. Audiences are taken through a series of interactive chambers where they encounter tales of plague, crime, and punishment, all within the atmospheric confines of a historic building near the city center. Following this, the 45-minute sightseeing cruise on the River Ouse provides a contrasting perspective, drifting past landmarks such as the medieval city walls, Clifford’s Tower, and the imposing York Minster from the water, with commentary that touches on both historical facts and local lore. Key highlights inside the York Dungeon include the Gallows scene re-enactment, where visitors see the grim justice system of Tudor York, and the plague doctor’s chamber, complete with authentic smells and chilling soundscapes that evoke the terror of the Black Death. The actors engage visitors directly, combining humor with horror to create an immersive theatrical experience. On the river cruise, the slow passage under historic bridges offers ample opportunity to see centuries-old architecture reflected in the water, while the guide points out former merchant houses, the remains of Roman walls, and the modern developments along the quayside, blending York’s layered timeline. The Dungeon tour is conducted in small groups led by professional actors who perform scripted but interactive shows lasting around 75 minutes. This is followed by the boat cruise, which accommodates groups of up to 50 passengers, with seating both indoors and on open decks. The boat’s slow pace and gentle motion make it accessible to most visitors, while commentary is delivered via a live guide or recorded system depending on the day. Both attractions are located within a short walk of each other in central York, allowing easy transitions between them without the need for additional transport. This combination suits those interested in experiencing York’s historic atmosphere from both a dramatic and a scenic viewpoint. It appeals to visitors who enjoy storytelling that is both educational and theatrical, as well as those who appreciate seeing the city’s architecture and riverside environment from a different vantage point. Families with older children, history buffs, and those seeking an alternative to conventional sightseeing tours will find this package engaging and varied.

Dining at Legacy in York was nothing short of exceptional. The food was outstanding, beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and packed with flavor. I am also gluten free and I did not feel left out at all as both my partner and I, while having a couple different dishes, were blown away by every bite. What truly elevated the experience, though, was the service. It was warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional without ever feeling stiff or overbearing. A special mention has to go to restaurant manager Samuel Holding, who was phenomenal. His genuine passion, attention to detail, and welcoming presence made the evening feel personal and memorable. He even followed up with an email detailing all the delicious wines we had. Its a complete dining experience! Incredible food, exceptional service, and a team that clearly takes pride in what they do. Easily one of the best dining experiences in York.

We have been to Legacy twice and both times we have had an amazing experience. We are both vegetarian and find that options are usually underwhelming compared to meat options in fine dining restaurants. That is not the case in Legacy however, the vegetarian options are fantastic and well thought out. The wine pairing is essential as well IMO, the sommelier is nothing less than a genius and a master of their craft.

Our third visit and after eating across europe at a number of Michelin rated restaurants, our absolute favourite restaurant by far. The culinary skill is sublime, the menu is focused, well balanced and truely satisfying. The classic wine flight was beautifully balanced, perfectly on point yet full of interest. The service is impeccable, engaging and friendly - they are passionate about their product and carry a huge pride in what they are offering. Derek the sommelier is just a joy- approachable, full of knowledge and clearly passionate about his incredible wine list. Ask and he will deliver the perfect wine for your pallette - the best sommelier iI have ever encountered. The ambience is intimate and comfortable yet the room has a gentle buzz rather than being overly formal. The timing between courses and the pace of the evening was perfect. A fabulous, fabulous restaurant so deserving of formal recognition. Thank you to all the staff for making yet another incredible occasion and a treasured culinary experience.

Just fabulous! We are staying at the Grand in York and it was my husband's birthday and we wanted to celebrate at this fabulous restaurant! The whole evening from start to finish was amazing! They have three levels of the prefixed menus. We decided to go for the second one and also had the wine pairing which was a great decision as the wines were perfectly paired with each course! It started with some canapes and then we had some brioche style bread with some delicious butters! Every course was spectacular! The service was impeccable as well. I would highly recommend this place.

One of the best meals I’ve had all year. The service was impeccable. Polite, friendly, informative. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The only thing I didn’t eat was a small piece of fruit bread with the cheese course. The wine pairing was outstanding. Sam really knew his stuff and took me on a journey. A lovely chap to talk to as well and gave me some great other local recommendations. I would definitely return.
