This combined ticket offers two distinct experiences that capture different facets of York's appeal. First, the York Dungeon presents a theatrical journey into the city's darker past, using live actors, special effects, and detailed sets to bring to life infamous events and characters from York’s medieval through early modern periods. Audiences are taken through a series of interactive chambers where they encounter tales of plague, crime, and punishment, all within the atmospheric confines of a historic building near the city center. Following this, the 45-minute sightseeing cruise on the River Ouse provides a contrasting perspective, drifting past landmarks such as the medieval city walls, Clifford’s Tower, and the imposing York Minster from the water, with commentary that touches on both historical facts and local lore. Key highlights inside the York Dungeon include the Gallows scene re-enactment, where visitors see the grim justice system of Tudor York, and the plague doctor’s chamber, complete with authentic smells and chilling soundscapes that evoke the terror of the Black Death. The actors engage visitors directly, combining humor with horror to create an immersive theatrical experience. On the river cruise, the slow passage under historic bridges offers ample opportunity to see centuries-old architecture reflected in the water, while the guide points out former merchant houses, the remains of Roman walls, and the modern developments along the quayside, blending York’s layered timeline. The Dungeon tour is conducted in small groups led by professional actors who perform scripted but interactive shows lasting around 75 minutes. This is followed by the boat cruise, which accommodates groups of up to 50 passengers, with seating both indoors and on open decks. The boat’s slow pace and gentle motion make it accessible to most visitors, while commentary is delivered via a live guide or recorded system depending on the day. Both attractions are located within a short walk of each other in central York, allowing easy transitions between them without the need for additional transport. This combination suits those interested in experiencing York’s historic atmosphere from both a dramatic and a scenic viewpoint. It appeals to visitors who enjoy storytelling that is both educational and theatrical, as well as those who appreciate seeing the city’s architecture and riverside environment from a different vantage point. Families with older children, history buffs, and those seeking an alternative to conventional sightseeing tours will find this package engaging and varied.

Had a truly lovely dinner at this authentic French restaurant in York. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere transported us straight to France – warm, intimate, and full of charm. The food was absolutely superb, especially the French onion soup, which was rich, deeply flavourful, and topped with perfectly melted cheese. It was honestly one of the best I’ve had. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. If you’re looking for a genuine French dining experience in York, this place is a gem. We’ll definitely be back! 🇫🇷✨

Having read a review many months ago when planning a Christmas break in York, and booking Rustique on that recommendation it was get to experience something better. Made to feel special from arrival to the very end, with fantastic food, simple, well presented and tasty French style. Onion soup was everything one could hope for. Bretton style chicken for me,whilst my partner had a generous portions of prawn and crab linguine and the third had steak frites. Deserts again all different, creme brulee, banana crepe and a sticky toffee pudding. Fantastic Staff were friendly helpful and fun ,- thank you

Oh, what an absolutely incredible meal I had at Rustique in York! 🇫🇷 The French onion soup was truly delightful, just bursting with flavor. I savored every single spoonful, it was pure comfort in a bowl. 🥣 The ambiance of the restaurant was also so charming, making the whole experience even more special. I can't stop thinking about that soup, it's definitely a must-try. If you're ever in York, I highly recommend a visit! 🤩 It was a perfect evening spent enjoying delicious French cuisine. I'm already planning my next trip back for more!

Lovely meal at Rustique. Friendly service with a warm welcome into a nicely decorated dining area. Busy on a Sunday evening. We ordered from the Set menu and bought 3 courses each. The French onion Soup was delicious and I am assured that yhe goats cheese and creamed mushrooms were also. For the main, 3 of our party had the Steak and each opted for a different sauce option. I chose peppercorn and would recommend this. Steak was juicy and cooked well to a medium rare. Fries were thin and crispy. For dessert I had the Tarte au citron. This was ok but I preferred the chocolate pot and creme brulee my dining partners were having (and I tried some of). Creme Brulee was very large, looked the best pick i.m.o. I also had a glass of the Merlot this was nice. The toilets were well decorated and flushed effectively.

First time here . Amazing decor walking in absolutely love the john willman prints on the ceilings and the art work on the walls. Great service. Food was great apart from not much sauce or cream with the pasta so was quite dry . They did give us another dish which was better. Loved the pork with the Mustard mash but would have been better with some veg. Great staff could not fault and will definitely return. Thank you
