Authentic Stories from Diners
Alice and her wonderful team gave us the best meal of our lives. The waitresses and waiters were knowledgeable and so passionate, extremely kind and welcoming. The food was beyond creative and simply delicious. A true farm to table concept celebrating local produce. The ambience was also phenomenal, as was the decor and overall vibe. Loved every second and can only hope to one day have the privilege to dine here again. Thank you!
A 70th birthday treat from my daughters involving staying in Helmsley and being told that the Black Swan in Oldstead was closed and we were eating in Helmsley, then on walking out of the hotel we got in a taxi, in on the ruse, and then driven down country roads in all directions, but I knew, I knew! So the tasting menu it was including a couple of supplements making ten tasting courses to work through. And it was a delight, the staff are magnificent in every way, informative, relaxed yet supremely efficient and the type people that real people relate to, snobbery has no place here. The menu is based entirely on local produce foraged or grown on the family farm or nearby and all the processes and thoughts explained along the way. The tastes were divine, the place full on a February Wednesday evening, and the overall experience an absolute delight!
A stunning place. We had dinner here while staying at the Abbey Inn. It was just magical, excellent quality menu. The creativity of the dishes is something so unique of this place. By no means it takes away the 5 stars, but I'd have enjoyed it even more if there was more proteins through the menu. The breakfast also lived up to the expectations, best delish was the black pudding (albeit served only until 10am!).
Outstanding surroundings, attentive staff and amazing food makes this one of, if not my favourite dining experience. From everyone involved. Thank you for each visit. It really is a fantastic place. Can not pick one fault. Flawless.
The Black Swan is incredible. A beautiful setting for an incredible restaurant. Great rooms, impeccable service - the staff are amazing. The food is wonderful - from exceptional beef tartare canapés to a delicious lions mane broth and a partridge celebration. One odd note - some burned kale with a pork concoction. But this made for an interesting talking point in a meal that was otherwise faultless! I cannot recommend highly enough.
